Subject: Permission to reprint Associates article

Actually, I'm requesting permission to preprint a forthcoming article. I wrote to Carol Borzyskowski (she's in my library cooperative) for first her permission to reprint her previous article, and when she wrote back, she said that she has one that's about to be published in this month's Associates. And she said it's on the Minnesota Certification project.

I'm chair of SSPIN, Support Staff and Paraprofessional Interest Section of the Minnesota Library Association. We publish (in hard copy, so far) LinkUp!, a newsletter for members. This year we've been congratulating the first graduates of the certification program, and encouraging those in the program. Our copy of LinkUp! should be in mailboxes during the third week of March. I'm thinking that a reprint of an article, especially one by a Minnesota author and on the state program, might encourage other members to subscribe to Associates, as one way to become more active in their field.

Would you consider granting us permission to "preprint" Carol's article? or, if not, would you allow us to reprint her last article? Thanks!

[Editors: Being the wonderful people we are, we said "sure"! and we got this nice response:]

Did I say thanks for your permission? The newest article fits so well with or goals lately. I plan to bring my hard copy of the November issue to the meeting, along with the brochure describing Associates.

If I don't have more of those brochures in with my papers, would you like me to copy some to hand out, or would you like to send some for distribution?

[Editors: Being the broke people we are, we love having people hand out our brochures but we sure can't pay for making copies. Just mail us for the Word file.]

I just recently resubscribed to Associates after having been away from work for nearly a year. For some reason, I only received this one column. Any idea what happened?

And would it be possible to send the issue to me, or should I read it on the website instead? I received this column on Dec. 14th.

[Editors: As we have learned, the word VIEW is a LISTPROC command, so our mailing software refused to send Carol's column. Of course, it took us and the Computer Center gurus quite a while to figure this out so Carol's column was very late in gettiung published. So now Carol has a new column title :-)

And, of course, the web version of ASSOCIATES including back issues is available via our website: http://www.ukans.edu/~assoc/]

Did I miss something, or was I over keen on the delete button ?? I was looking for a copy of Carol B's View from a backroom in the latest issue but dont seem to have had one ? I blame the computers for its disappearence, which should let us both off !! Can check on the web page when you up date that if it s a problem.

Thanks for publishing my article, came out really well I think, thanks.

{Editors: See above...and it did come out really well, Jim.]

Just wanted to thank you for publishing my poem *e-jargon in the Land of MARC* in this issue of Associates.

I look forward to reading the rest of the issue.

{Editors: And so did yours, Jennifer..]

I went to the website but the "current issue" is linked to the July issue. Isn't it supposed to be linked to the Nov. issue?

[Editors: It wouldn't be an issue of ASSOCIATES if there weren't one screwup!]

On the above page <http://www.ukans.edu/~assoc/putnam399.html>, you have linked the Shelburne County Community Net, however you are using an old link. The link that you are currently using is http://www.shelburne.nscc.ns.ca/community/hoax.html It would be appreciated if you could update the link to point to http://www.nsaccess.ns.ca/Shelburne/goodtimes.html . A few other HOAX links are located on our main page http://www.nsaccess.ns.ca/Shelburne/ (Please note the capital S in Shelburne is REQUIRED to be a capital, or the link will not work.)

Thank you for linking to us, and feel free to come by the page and take a look at some of the changes. I feel the site is better than ever now!

[Editors: We emailed Mr. Patton back and told him that we couldn't change the link as it was part of a published journal but that we would be glad to pass on the new link to our readers. He responded with "I would really appreciate that...that's far and beyond anything that I had expected."]
