Currently speakers are available on a wide variety of topics, including library technical education, COLT history, the internet, history of early pioneer women, copyright use in libraries, and much more. This database is quite helpful for people looking for workshop or conference speakers, however, it would be even more helpful if the database included a wider cross section of topics and speakers throughout the country. Many library paraprofessionals have experience in training students and staff, running departments or programs, or know about interesting library projects or people. By registering with the Speaker Information Exchange library paraprofessionals can share their wealth of information and knowledge with others in the library profession. Being listed on the Speaker Information Exchange in no way obligates an individual to accept any and all speaking engagements. It is just a way for those with a need for speakers to reach those who have an interest in speaking. Logistically, the COLT Speaker information Exchange serves as a clearing house between speakers and those needing their services. Brief biographical information and a basic synopsis of each speaker's program, including technical requirements is filed in the speaker information database. Those requesting information on possible speakers contact the Council on Library/Media Technicians with their request. A search is made of the database and speaker information is provided to the requestor. All further contact and negotiations with the speaker are the responsibility of the requesting agent. For additional information about the COLT Speaker Information Exchange contact Linda Owen at either: lowen@pop.ucr.edu or ljowen@ucr.campus.mci.net. or visit the COLT pages on the Library Support Staff Resource Center world wide web home page http://rodent.lib.rochester.edu/ssp/colt/coltspkr.htm
