In January 2005 the BC Library Technicians and Assistants Interest Group (LTAIG) launched a new website, located at http://www.bcla.bc.ca/ltaig. The following is an overview of what our website has to offer, and how it fits with the group’s objectives.
About LTAIG
LTAIG represents library technicians and support staff throughout the province of British Columbia. As well as hosting the website, we have an email discussion list, conduct surveys, and sponsor networking and educational events.
LTAIG’s mission is “to establish an inclusive, province-wide organization which supports and promotes the role of Library Technicians and Assistants through education, communication and advocacy.”
The new website enables us to accomplish our mission more effectively by providing information and resources relevant to the field of library and information technology, and by establishing better connections among library technical workers and the library community at large.
LTAIG Website
These are some of the main features available at LTAIG online:
LTAIG Publications, including the results of surveys we have conducted in recent years. We are just getting ready to publish the final analysis of our 2005 survey, which will be online at the end of July; Career & Education Information, including an overview of the field, and education opportunities available in British Columbia; Job Search Tools, including the job outlook, sources for job & volunteer postings, and tips for successful resumes, cover letters and interviews; News & Announcements relevant to the world of library & information technology – your world!
Discussion Forum
We are pleased to announce that our brand new discussion board is ready for launch at the end of July. The forum is meant to facilitate communication on a variety of topics relating to the work and training of library support staff, including the results of the 2005 LTAIG survey which will be released about the same time.
The forum is free to access, and is open to all library technicians and support staff wherever they happen to be. This is just one more way that we aim to use the website to strengthen ties within the library support staff community, not only in British Columbia, but across Canada, the United States, and the world. Stay tuned for an announcement on the website soon!
Feedback
The field of library and information technology is constantly changing, and as such the LTAIG website will always be a work in progress. We are always looking for ways to improve the site so that it will continue to evolve into a valuable resource for library technicians and support staff in British Columbia, and beyond.
Comments, questions, and new ideas are most welcome. Please feel free to contact the Website Administrator using the feedback form on the website, or by sending an email to ltaigweb@gmail.com.
