ASSOCIATES (vol. 4, no. 1, July 1997) - associates.ucr.edu
*ANNOUNCEMENTS* July 1997 Apologies to the Library Support Staff Resource Center/SSIRT and to Terry Rodgers. In the last issue of _ASSOCIATES_ we were supposed to make announcements regarding the publication of Ms. Rodgers' book _The Library Paraprofessional: Notes From the Underground_ (which is being reviewed in this issue) and the LSSRC/SSIRT support staff survey. Inadvertently, an earlier version of *ITEMS OF INTEREST* was uploaded. As a result, we've divided *ITEMS OF INTEREST* into two sections. In *ITEMS OF INTEREST* we'll continue to list items of long- standing interest to library support staff such as how to subscribe to LIBSUP-L or _Library Mosaics_. The new section, *ANNOUNCEMENTS*, will consist of more timely announcements and will change each issue. Hopefully, you will provide us with contributions for this section. News items can be sent to associat@ukanvm.cc.ukans.edu. ******************** URL Change - The URL for the Library Support Staff Resource Center shall be changing shortly. The current URL, http://rodent.lib.rochester.edu/ssp/ will forward to the new URL for a while. ASSOCIATES will list the new URL when available. ******************* Thesis Completed - Margaret Friesen of the University of British Columbia recently completed her MLIS. Her thesis was entitled _The Terminology of Job Descriptions: The Case of Library Assistants Who Provide Information Services_. Included in her note to us regarding this was the following "...during the course of researching and writing the thesis, I frequently tapped into both LIBSUP-L and ASSOCIATES and read Library Mosaics regularly to keep up to date with developments related to library assistants". We hope to have an article from Margaret in the near future. Congratulations, Margaret! ******************** Document Review - The American Library Associations' Committee on Education's Task Force for the Review of Criteria for Programs to Prepare Library/Media Technical Assistants would like your participation in the review of the document "Criteria for Programs to Prepare Library/Media Technician Assistants". The document is available at http://rodent.lib.rochester.edu/ssp/ltacrit.htm. Please study the document and make any suggestions that you believe will make it relevant to the education of today's LTAs. ********************
