Date: April 26, 2002 Place: Auditorium of the Water Resources Building (near the California State Library)Tinker Massey, the featured speaker, is a nationally known, motivational speaker who currently hails as a library technical assistant from the Thomas Cooper Library, at the University of South Carolina. She has been a speaker at many conferences and workshops, helped form several paraprofessional organizations and conferences, and a self-published book for children in 2001 entitled, "Family Memories". "The Rhythm of Library Change: Becoming Part of the Composition", the main theme of the conference, deals with the elements of change and how to make the erratic staccato of work life become a smooth, controlled ebb and flow of adventure and development for each individual and the library system. Massey and conference attendees will explore technological change, personal development, training, mentoring and restructuring as it influences individuality and customer services. This conference will be of interest to persons working in special libraries, public libraries, as well as, research libraries. There is something of interest and value for everyone.

A small committee of support staff members from various libraries in southern Michigan (public, academic and specialized) has been meeting with the goal of forming an organization specifically for support staff. We'd like your input! Here is a chance to get together and learn what the various library groups can offer us. Presentations will include: "Council on Library/Media Technicians" (COLT), a national group with potential for a Southern Michigan COLT Chapter, "Michigan Library Association" (MLA) with potential for a Library Support Staff Round Table, and "Library Support Staff Interest Round Table" (LSSIRT) of the American Library Association (ALA).
