It's been a long time since I've had to write an editorial. Yippee!!! Whoops…never mind.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve been delighted with the work of the rest of the editorial board…a group of bright, articulate people who represent us all with class. They all have written thoughtfully and insightfully. But now you’re stuck with me again.
And I don't know about you, but I think that you, too, are a group of bright, articulate people as well. (Now if only I could convince you all to write for Associates so I can stop worrying about each issue.) I think of how much library staff have accomplished professionally in the past 5 years and I am filled with pride. Even though some things haven't changed and some of you haven't gotten the benefit of our progress that you should have, more and more we are recognized as an invaluable partner in Librarianship.
And I don’t know about the rest of you, but the last 18 months have been full of wondrous things for me and the other editors (excluding root canals and kidney infections...an inside joke). The biggest news items are probably saying "goodbye" to Paulette Feld, who serves us all so well in so many capacities, as she goes on to bigger and better things in her life, and "congratulations" to Katie Buller who is off to start a new life in California. (And, yes, you'll be reading all about these events later in this issue of Associates.)
We also need to say "welcome" to Susan Salt, of the National Agricultural Library, who is taking over as Events Editor. (She doesn’t know it yet, but I think we’ll make her write the next editorial. Might have done it this issue, but that would have been too cruel.)
What else? Well, thanks to Joy Wanden, we have a great new website and Susan Ryan is now a Reference/Education Services Librarian. Wendee says nothing has happened (which we find hard to believe) and Bob is speechless.
Me…I have two new knees and one new grandson.
Life is good.
