Sage Support Staff Travel Grants awarded

CHICAGO—Six library support staff have been awarded a 2008 ALCTS/SAGE Library Support Staff Travel Grant. These grants provide airfare, three nights’ hotel and conference registration for the individuals to attend the 2008 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference to be held in Anaheim, CA. Those receiving the travel grant this year are:

Behzad Allahyar, Persian & Arabic language specialist in serials and E-resources cataloging, UCLA, Los Angeles, CaliforniaGary Beer, senior library specialist, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois

Angela Hand, library academic technician, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas

Michelle Schrade, library assistant, Glendale Public Library, Glendale, Arizona

Angela Slaughter, fast track serials cataloger, Indiana University, Indiana

Israel Yanez, library assistant, California State University, Sacramento, California

The awards will be presented on Sunday, June 29, 2008, at the ALCTS Awards Ceremony during the 2008 American Library Association (ALA) meeting in Anaheim, CA.

Now in its fourth year, travel grants were offered to support staff working in an area of technical services and collection, with at least three years of experience, who have never before attended an ALA annual conference. The 2008 award recipients demonstrated outstanding commitment to the profession, active participation in local and paraprofessional associations as well as the professional life of their respective institutions, and evidence of a clear desire to serve their library communities. Above all, each of these candidates demonstrated a genuine love of and deep commitment to libraries.

The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) is the national association for information providers who work in collections and technical services. Areas of concentration of ALCTS members include acquisition, cataloging, collection development, preservation, and archiving of all library materials in all formats as well as serial collection management.

ALCTS is a division of the American Library Association.
