November 2020 (Vol. 27, no. 2)

From the Editor

It is an understatement to say that 2020 has not been a good year. It has seriously impacted on our family, friends, workplaces and our library users.

I would like to thank all of this year’s contributors: Allison for her articles, Michael for his reviews, Andrew for his Canadian news, our Spotlights, Cyndi, Kathy, Erica and Virgilio and everyone who participated in our Reader Responses.

I would also like to thank Jim, who looks after our website. Associates would not exist without him. Thanks Mate!

To all our readers I would like to wish you a good Festive Season and a happy New Year and all the best for 2021.

Reader Response
In what ways does your service operate differently than it did in November 2019?
We all know libraries are doing things differently than 12 months ago however only three have shared their stories.

News from Canada by Andrew Plait
Once again Andrew keeps us informed about what is happening in Canada. Some of the stories might just be what’s needed to provide a lift for the day.

Is It “PC” to Love a Card Catalog? by Allison Sloan
The more experienced of our readers may like to reflect on the card catalog/catalogue and Allison’s mini history lesson about Melvil Dewey.

Some Database Basics for Some Database Novices by Michael D. Brooks
Your current roll in your library might not include databases, however one day this may change. Michael gives us some advice on what to do if that does happen.
