Letters To The Editors

Date: Mon 2/21/00 9:05 AM
From: Gruber, Mary J. [mgruber@nv.cc.va.us]
Subject: Associates format

I was just wanting to know if the Associates-Library Support Staff Journal is an electronic mailing or if it comes in paper form? We get the LIBRARY MOSAICS as advertised on the "Soaring to Excellence" teleconference series from the College of DuPage, and that is a paper issue. I await your response.

[Editors: We are available as an electronic mailing or on our website. If we had to put it out in paper too, we’d all have nervous breakdowns J ]

From: MARCIA SEMERAU <MSEMERAU@duluth.lib.mn.us>
Subject: Promotional materials

Having read the last issue of Associates, I wanted to respond to the "letters to the editor" section on promotional materials and say please send me a copy of your brochure when it is ready.

I am the Chair of the Support Staff and Paraprofessional Interest Section of the Minnesota Library Association this year. We developed several promotional pieces ourselves this past year - brochures, bookmarks and magnets - which we passed out at the professional table in the exhibits hall that we staffed at the annual conference this fall. I will attend a number of conferences throughout the following year and would be happy to have your brochure along with ours to hand out to anyone who is interested.

I enjoy reading your publication. Thank you for everyone's time and effort put into publishing it.

[Editors: You bet! When it becomes available, we’ll let everyone know.]

Subject: SEEKING FOR INFORMATION AND ADVISE

My name is Mayega Stephen and I’m working at Makerere University Main library as a Library Assistant in the IT section. My work is as follows: I help the system Librarian in training the library users and members of staff in the use of computers in the library. I also help the users in the use of CD-ROM and also searching information from the Internet for the library users. I also help in the creation of home pages and also updating them for other sub libraries. I would also help in trouble shooting in case of any problem with the computers. I also help the system librarian in running the network of about 12 computers.

I would like to know if you have a program where by one can come to your library and work may be for a period of three weeks and gain experience or you can connect me to any library or organization can sponsor me to gain experience in any library or organization. Thanks in advance, I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

From: Jim Jackson <J.G.Jackson@exeter.ac.uk>
Subject: Latest issue

What a gem of an issue !! The latest edition of Associates is full of really classic stuff, do congratulate the
Editors and other writers.

On the leaflet front, when you have a copy ready I would love one. If it helps with costs you could try emailing a
copy to me, if that possible. Had you thought about having a copy on a web page at Associates, so that people could
download their own copy ?

If I don’t get chance to write again before Christmas, I hope you have a good one. My grateful thanks for all your
help and support for Book IT this year, would not have got this far without you.

[Editors: Jim Jackson has an article on the Book IT project in this issue of Associates. Check it - and the book IT website out…then let Jim know what YOU plan on doing to celebrate!

And great idea, Jim, of putting our brochure on our website. Thanks!]
