At the South Dakota Library Association 2001 Annual Conference, held Oct 3-5,
2001 in Aberdeen, SD, the SDLA Support Staff Section presented a program, "The
Changing Role of the Paraprofessional". Presenters Kathie Martin, Adolphus
Gustavus Library, St Peter, MN and Zona Meyer, formerly of the Hamline Law Library,
St. Paul, MN gave an enlightening and entertaining presentation of the history
of support staff and support staff organizations in MN and the future of support
staff in general.
Kathie and Zona facilitated a Breakfast Buffet Roundtable discussion of "Support Staff in the Library" early Friday morning. Kathie and Zona were mentors during the SDLA Support Staff Section Annual Meeting held just after their presentation. Both Kathie and Zona have many years in the leadership role of support staff in Minnesota.

Deb Yoder, Library Associate in Youth Services , Siouxland Libraries, Sioux Falls, SD, won the SDLA Support Staff of the Year Award. Deb received a corsage, a plaque, and $75.00 for her award.
The SDLA Support Staff Section had a table set up in the lobby near the vendor
booth convention room, with balloons, information about SDLA SSS, Associates,
Library Mosaics, Soaring to Excellence Teleconferences, and other pertinent
information. Several support staff supporters donated door prizes and drawings
were held throughout the conference. Susan Schleicher and Sandy Linn of the
H M Briggs Library, South Dakota State University,
Brookings, SD made over 300 bookmarks featuring the SDLA SSS website that were
handed out to all conference participation.
