As we close out the 20th century, look to the non-purist millennium, and count down till that certain midnight, I admit to being a bit astonished. Someone on a listserv wrote that she had been looking forward to this since she was 7 years old, the age of my granddaughter. A man in Modern Maturity wrote that he was planning on being at a certain spot in a suburb in St. Louis because of a promise he’d made to a childhood friend 62 years ago. In my town, the county commissioners agreed to allow the sale of fireworks and we could set them off till 1 AM. Unheard of!

And me? I sat at my computer and typed in Volume 6, Number 2 on our title page. Talk about awe-inspiring!

6 volumes…we’ve been publishing for 6 years. Wow!

Number 2…that means this is our 17th issue. Double wow!

Next issue I even get to type in a new century. Be still my beating heart.

We’ve got a lot of good, new stuff for you in this issue. But, thanks to a brainstorm by Bob Farnsworth, who also got to write this issue’s editorial, we also decided to include our favorite articles from previous issues…our blasts from the past from ASSOCIATES: The Electronic Library Support Staff Journal.

Now, you may not agree with our choices. That’s cool. Notice we didn’t call them the best? Just our favorites. We hope you enjoy them, too.

By the way, we want to thank the folks at BUBL Information Services at the University of Strathclyde (particularly Emma McCulloch) and Trinity University (thanks, Donna Hernandez!) for archiving our issues and making them available to everyone. Without their hard work, you wouldn’t be reading these wonderful articles today.

And I, personally, want to thank my editors both past and present. This is a team effort. There are some who have set jobs they do each issue like Bob, Katie and both Susans. Others, like Joy and Wendee step up and do special projects such as design our website and our upcoming brochure. And all of them willingly help out whenever needed, like for all that editing stuff:-) If you ever run into any of them, shake their hands and tell them you appreciate their hard work. That’s what I’ll do.
