READ THIS!!! VERY IMPORTANT!!

By December 8th, _ASSOCIATES: The Electronic Library Support
Staff Journal_ will be moving from its VM server to another server at
KU. This means that the ASSOC-L@UKANVM.CC.UKANS.EDU list and the
ASSOCIAT@UKANVM.CC.UKANS.EDU address will shortly cease to exist.
The Computer Center staff have asked, however, that the new addresses
not be given out just yet.

As a result, all addresses in our subscriber information
temporarily will be changed to my personal email account. All requests
for subscribing or unsubscribing should go through me until the new
addresses are functional. When the final changes are made, ASSOCIATES
will send out a posting to all subscribers with the new information.

      Thank you for your patience.
      Kendall Simmons
      Editor-in-Chief, _ASSOCIATES_

AWARDS

Virginia Heinrich, current chair of the Minnesota Library Association
Support Staff and Paraprofessional Interest Section, was presented
with a Certificate of Merit at the Minnesota Library Association
Annual Conference awards luncheon on October 1, 1997. This award was
given "...in recognition of her leadership in the adult literacy and
library communities; her valuable contribution to both libraries and
literacy programs through the development of a national on-line
literacy resource system; and her outstanding service to the Support
Staff and Paraprofessional Interest Section of MLA." Virginia works
as the solo librarian in the Minnesota Literacy Training Network's
resource center, and has been involved in state, regional, and
national-level technology projects. In particular, she was
instrumental in the development of a Web-based cataloging form
designed for use by literacy program staff with no library experience,
as part of a database-creation project funded by the National
Institute for Literacy. She has done training on the form's use and
on other applications of technology in adult literacy across the
country. Virginia is working on her MLIS at the University of
Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
