Anthropologist Bonnie Nardi will open the conference with a keynote address on "Information Ecologies", a topic informed by her recent work with reference librarians. Dr. Nardi is currently writing a book to be published by MIT press entitled: Information Ecologies: Local Habitations for Technology and People, which contains a chapter on librarians. Thursday afternoon will feature member presentations and contributed papers, as well as a plenary session on the theme of "Issues in Establishing the Electronic Library". The closing address by ACRL President Lee Hisle, "Survival of the Fittest: Values for the Electronic Information Age" will challenge us not to lose sight of traditional values of librarianship in our changing culture. The keynote speaker will be Steve Hanamura. Mr. Hanamura is principal of Hanamura Consulting, a firm he founded in 1986 to help people work and live with one another to create a more productive environment. Before starting Hanamura Consulting, he held human resource management jobs for US Bank, the Oregon Commission for the Blind, and Lane Community College. An experienced and respected expert on workplace issues, Mr. Hanamura is a popular media interview guest and keynote speaker at regional and national conferences.
