"I Work In a Library, But I'm Not a Librarian": Survival Skills

Library Consultant Kathleen Weibel will be keynote speaker for
the conference.  Ms. Weibel is the former library director at
Ohio Wesleyan University and is a frequent conference speaker and
a consultant on issues concerning libraries and library
management.  She is especially well known for her presentation on
the topic "I Work In a Library, But I'm Not a Librarian."  Ms.
Weibel's presentation at the KLOA Conference will address
the theme of "Survival Skills in Changing Times."  She will speak
both mornings, followed by a selection of workshops presented by
experts who will share information on specific topics related to
survival skills.  Time will be available for group discussion
(networking) by interest areas.
 
In order to provide flexibility and accommodate Support Staff
work schedules, conference programs will be repeated each day.
 
Conference announcement brochure will be mailed to KLOA members,
previous attendees and Kansas libraries in July.  Registration
materials will be mailed out by early September.

Minnesota Library Association Support Staff Day
"Communication For (a) Change"
Duluth, Minnesota

In conjunction with the Minnesota Library Association Annual
Conference
October 5-7, 1994.
 
This is an opportunity for librarians and support staff to
participate in a lively discussion about how we work together.  A
combination of skits, group discussion and guest speakers will
help identify new ways of interacting in response to change in
libraries.  Joan Bechtel, librarian from Dickinson College,
Carlisle, PA will be the speaker.  Ms. Bechtel was instrumental
in developing a system of collegial management at Dickinson
and has written extensively on collegiality and automation.  Ms.
Bechtel will also speak in the afternoon on "Conversation for
Change" followed by roundtable discussions by library type and
function.
