OUR NEW WEBSITE

Well. The big moment has come...and gone. Our new website will indeed premier with this July issue, but exactly when is still in doubt as our intrepid webmistress, Katie Buller, has torn cartilege in her knee. However, for future reference, the URL will be http://raven.cc.ukans.edu/~assoc/ and it should be available this weekend (July 25-26, 1998).

OUR NEW LISTSERV

ASSOCIATES: The Electronic Library Support Staff Journal has been moved (not without a few snags) to its new server. The server address is LISTPROC@UKANS.EDU. The address for submissions, letters to the editors, etc. is ASSOCIAT@RAVEN.CC. UKANS.EDU. As of this writing, archival issues cannot be obtained at this site. However, several other sites do archive ASSOCIATES. That information is available under our Archive, Gopher, FTP and WWW Retrieval Information section.

COLT URL Change

The URL for the home page of the Council on Library Media Technicians (COLT) has changed. All pages can be accessed via the New Base URL: http://library.ucr.edu/COLT/ [This link no longer works, 11/19/2004]

Please change your COLT bookmarks as soon as possible. The old base home page URL will link to the new automatically; however new pages such as the Library Support Staff Day information for California are only reachable via the new address. FLINT HILLS TECHNICAL COLLEGE LIBRARY ASSOCIATE PROGRAM

Below you will find the fall schedule for the Flint Hills Technical College Library Associate program in Emporia, Kansas. These classes can be taken either for continuing education (take only what suits your needs) or as part of a curriculum that leads to an Associate degree. Anyone who has graduated from high school is eligible to take classes.

Please note that BUS 111 - Business Software I is currently scheduled to meet on weekday mornings. If there are enough students to add a third section, we will be glad to do so. We will make every effort to schedule it for Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Please let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in this class.

Instructors:

Toni Harrell has thirteen years of experience as an educator, seven of those as a library media specialist in the Lawrence, Kansas, school system. She has been involved with a number of school projects including the integration of technology for her building and school district. Toni is especially interested in how patrons and students use electronic resources to find information. She received her MLS from Emporia State University in 1992. Janet Anderson-Story have nearly twenty years of support staff experience in public and academic libraries. She have worked in the reference and children's departments of the Lawrence Public Library and as Stacks Supervisor for Watson Library at the University of Kansas. She received her MLS from ESU in 1994 and served as Assistant to the Dean of the School of Library and Information Management for two years. She has been active in continuing education for library employees since the early 1990s.

LIBRARY TECHNICAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM ONLINE

Rose State, a two-year college in Midwest City, which is outside of Oklahoma City, has been offering a Library Technical Assistant program for close to 20 years.
