Book IT provides an opportunity for school, public, academic and corporate libraries to organize local events around the central theme of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. On Saturday 24 June 2000 the project aims to encourage as many people as possible to engage with A Midsummer Night’s Dream, in a variety of ways - by reading the text, listening to an audio tape, watching a video, or via CD-ROM or Web sites.

Bob Usherwood, the 1998 Library Association President says of the project "Regardless of format, libraries organize and communicate information, ideas and works of imagination. The Book IT project demonstrates this in an exciting way by building bridges between technologies, the past and the future."

Libraries can get involved by organizing an event, arranging a display or creating their own Web pages themed on A Midsummer Night’s Dream which can be linked to others around the world.

To find out more about taking part in the project, visit the Web site at http://www.ukans.edu/~assoc/bookit.html or contact Jim Jackson, Honorary Secretary of The Library Association Affiliate Members Group for an information sheet. Fax: 01392 263871 E-mail J.G.Jackson@exeter.ac.uk
