    WISCONSIN

    October 27-30, 1998
    Wisconsin Library Association Annual Conference
    Grand Geneva Resort & Spa
    Lake Geneva

The 1998 Wisconsin Library Association Conference promises to be a fun, memorable, and learning experience. You are encouraged to bring comfortable shoes for the large resort layout and if you wish, why not be comfortable and wear casual resort type clothing.

WLA divisions, sections, and roundtables are busy planning programs for librarians, trustees, and staff attending the Conference at the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa in Lake Geneva. The 1998 Call to Conference booklet announcing programs and events will be mailed to all WLA members at the end of August.

The Support Staff Section leads off the Conference on Tuesday, October 27, with a trio of programs aimed at inspiring library workers to face the challenges in today's libraries. Sarah Ann Long, President-elect of the American Library Association presents "Seven Habits of Highly Effective Support Staff." A panel of library staff from Chicago Public Library will take a humorous look at balancing patron satisfaction and enforcing policies in circulation services, with a program entitled "But the Dog Ate It." And, round out the day to "Exercise Your Options" with Catherine Schulz, Director of the New Berlin Public Library, as she teaches you to relieve stress, beat the blahs, the blues - move your body and mind, and relax to the beat. Be prepared to participate with this one! On Wednesday, October 28, the Support Staff Section will also sponsor a panel discussion entitled *Supporting Your Support Staff: A Politically Incorrect Discussion*. The moderated panel will consist of Support Staff and Library Directors discussing issues and aspects of Support Staff concerns, in an open, frank and maybe even humourous manner.
