February 21, 2008

Aurora Public Library – Tallyn’s Reach Branch

Educational Opportunities For Parapros

On a cool, crisp February morning, the Mountains and Plains Parapro committee hosted a free half day conference on Educational Opportunities for Parapros. The thirty one attendees thoroughly absorbed the very enlightening presentation from our keynote speaker, Eugene Hainer, Education Director from the Colorado State Library. Gene delighted everyone with his witty visual graphics on the past, present and future of libraries and the role of the library employee. Gene introduced a bibliography of websites the support library workers could access and we have included these on our website at: After a brief break, the participants could ask questions of Gene and also the three school/program representatives who brought their literature. Present were: Kelly Visnak, SLIM Distance Education Program Director for Colorado at Emporia University; Jeanne Gardner, Program Coordinator for Pueblo Community College and Regan Harper, Manager of Training and OCLC Service at the Bibliographical Center for Research. The conference ended at noon with many touring the 5 year old newest library in the Aurora Public Library system.

All were invited to attend the next all day MAPP conference on Friday, August 1, 2008 at the Aurora Central Library.
