Letters to the Editors

[Editors: We were told after the last issue that some folk were having troubles reaching back issues at the Trinity University archive site. Here's a response from Donna Hernandez. We would also like to thank Donna very much for taking the time, making the effort, and having the interest in making sure that Associates back issues are available to all.]

Subject: ASSOCIATES website

Hi, Kendall -- We are still posting Associates at this URL: http://www.trinity.edu/departments/library/associat.html

They are probably using the old URL: http://www.trinity.edu/departments/maddux_library/associat.html

The 'maddux_' has been removed. I think that the old address would still work up until this summer when the Computing Center made some changes on their end. Thanks for checking with me. It would be nice for people to be able to get to my hard work :-) I look forward to receiving the next issue.

Subject: Ergonomics sites for libraries

Hi Brad,

First let me say, that I enjoy your Internet Guru writings - in the e-zine "Associates" -

I have a web site called The LibMary (My name is Mary - I am a Library tech in a Library) - which is my "Collection" of everything library related - Links that I have collected - surfing the net for the past 5 years.. Anyway on my Library Reference page with Links for on the job, for staff - I have a few more links to add to your Ergonomics listing - in case you are interested in taking a look at.. http://www.geocities.com/~libmary/librefpg.htm#ergolink

BTW - the first site you list For carpal tunnel exercises - is now changed and I have the correct site URL listed on my page..

Also..if you have time, peruse the other "links" through out my Collection..and you may find future topics/sites to cover in your column.. I am running a "sign my Guestbook" contest on 9 of my 80 web pages at Geocities...some are LibMary pages and some are other ramblings and link collections of my favorite haunts on the web.

My web podium for a moment...

I have tried to interest Library Support Staff - to contribute to my Library Staff page - their "creative" writings and thoughts..but that page is among - the most ignored..( I realize - that my pages are but a grain of cosmic dust in the Library links available on the net..so I don't expect that - I am going to get alot of visitors) I have been told by..Net Gurus in the past..from Libraries, that Support Staff, don't have an interest in such a page, or the time to write, or even the equipment at home to read or post to other web sites..I am pleased though that an E-Zine such as Associates continues to grow and thrive - and LibSup-L is still the listserv, most respected by staff. So while - I am disappointed in the lack of "Support" or Interest by Support staff for another outlet for them, - I will continue to collect LibLinks..and remain a faithful reader of your column...(and the rest of Associates articles!)

Take care..and happy surfing! Over the circ desk, under the book cart, around the stacks, through the book drop...Nothing but Net!

[The Editors: Thanks for the thoughts and kind words. It's a pretty neat website, too! (http://www.geocities.com/~libmary/librefpg.htm)]

Could you please verify the most current URL for the Associates web page. I am writing a textbook for Libraries Unlimited and would like to mention your e-journal and the URL.

[The Editors: Our web address is http://www.ukans.edu/~assoc/. Denise Fourie, an instructor in Library/Information Technology at Cuesta College, wrote for us on library internships back in Volume 1, Number 3. Maybe after she finishes her book, we can get her to write something else!]
